This is commonplace for HP, as they did this with a lot of printers in 2016, got hammered on it in the press (and were threatened with legal action) so HP issued "firmware fixes" but from my research, they started it up again in 2017-18. And they worked perfect before the firmware copy protection "upgrade". I had a whole box of 3rd-party laser cartridges that I tossed out because each and every one gave an error now. I had an old HP that was working great, then in late-2018 they issued another auto-update "firmware upgrade" that stealth-installed and disabled all 3rd-party ink and it started giving errors and basically stopped working. If the issue persists, please perform the remaining steps from this document. The paper stack should slide easily into tray and not bind against the guides. To avoid skewing, adjust the guides on the document feeder to remove any gaps next to the edges of the paper and the guide. Make sure the original document or photo is in good condition and free of tears, creases, folds, staples, or tape. Reconnect the power cord, reinstall the battery if necessary, then turn on the printer.

To protect the interior printer parts, do not spray the cleaner directly on or into the printer.Ĭompletely close any covers and trays that you opened. Spray a soft, lint-free cloth with glass cleaner, then wipe the scanner glass and the white strip on the underside of the document feeder until clean, dry, and streak-free. Remove any debris such as bits of paper or paper clips from inside the document feeder. Turn the printer off, disconnect the power cord, and remove the battery if your printer has one.ĭepending on your printer model, open any top cover, document feeder tray, and scan document feeder cover.

If you have the cloth, load it into the document feeder and start a scan job to clean the scanner mechanism. Some printers ship with a document feeder cleaning cloth. Clean the plastic and glass strips inside the document feeder with a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with glass cleaner.
